SWEETS & TREATS
Throughout history, all of the best dates have started with someone bringing a box of chocolates when they go to meet their first date. So what better way to begin an article about date night activities than with a few locations where you can get a dessert fix?
Better Than Sex
4.7 ★
Known for pairing chocolate based desserts with cocktails that match just right, Better Than Sex chocolate is well known throughout Savannah as one of the best places to be when you are in an indulgent sort of mood. We know you haven’t heard of the Popcorn Pimp Cheesecake or the Caress My Carrot cake and you need to change that immediately. If you join the “Friends With Benefits” loyalty program, you can earn points towards future experiences and save later. Thursdays are double points days so definitely take advantage of that when you can. In this intimate establishment, each booth is surrounded by curtains, giving everyone a little bit of privacy. Don’t be surprised if the wait staff talks with a naughty flair, Better Than Sex is known for their edgy charm and out of this world dessert selections. Open Wednesday through Sunday in the evenings, you can visit Better Than Sex for the sweetest nightcap imaginable. While we can’t say anything about your intimate life in particular, we can vouch that this particular shop has dessert that tastes heavenly.
Lulu’s Chocolate Bar
4.5 ★
Voted “Best Desserts” consistently since their opening in 2007 is Lulu’s Chocolate Bar on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Inspired by the owner’s grandmothers, Lulu’s Chocolate Bar is meant to be the kind of inviting establishment where you can relax and enjoy some dessert or a cocktail. Organic, fair trade coffee is available along with cakes, coffees, and even chocolate fondue for two at Lulu’s Chocolate Bar. Choosing a dessert from this menu is easy on date night as their “for two” sized portions are always an option. Ask about the Rapture Sunday for Two when you want to split a heavenly dessert. During the week, Lulu’s Chocolate Bar opens at 6 pm, and even earlier on the weekends. Take your pick from a delectable menu and spend your next date embracing the super buzz that only Lulu’s Chocolate Bar can bring out.
River Street Sweets
4.6 ★
For something like fifty years now, River Street Sweets has been pushing their own family recipes to Savannah and surrounding areas. After all these years, you might even run into a location somewhere up north like Pennsylvania. We are always thrilled to walk through these doors to the sweet smell of candy cooking no matter where the location but this time, we are talking about both of Savannah’s establishments. From downtown River Street’s storefront to the midtown location in Habersham Village, River Street Sweets always has treats ready to make your date that much sweeter. Try out any of their ice cream options in the back cooler, especially one of the fruit flavors. Biting into the grapefruit or fruit flavors tastes exactly like a big gulp of a real fruit slushie. Both locations open daily around 9 am so whether you’re walking around downtown or want to avoid traffic by hanging out in the midtown area, River Street Sweets has plenty to pick from on their shelves at any moment.
Leopold’s Ice Cream
4.7 ★
People come to Savannah to visit Leopold’s Ice Cream from all over the world. This iconic little ice cream shop on Broughton St is notorious for having a quick moving line that extends past the door on any open day. Don’t worry though, this crew is efficient and will get you in and out so fast that you forget the line existed to begin with. Open daily at 11 am, Leopold’s is a fun stop to make anytime you want to get lost in a taste of nostalgia and ice cream with a reputation for tasting extravagant. If the line happens to be getting longer when you walk up, just call ahead and pre-order a pint. Walking around Savannah eating ice cream is yet another excuse to take in the aesthetic beauty that this historic city has to offer. Before you leave the premises though, make sure to take a couple of photos while you’re at it. Pictures taken at Leopold’s Ice Cream are guaranteed to get you plenty of internet points.
