Starcastle
4.7 ★
Long lasting, full of fun and a variety of activities is Starcastle on Mall Blvd. Generations of families have spent time skating, playing laser tag, and winning tickets in the arcade for many years. Birthday parties are held in this family friendly establishment quite often and even the grown ups can have a blast showing off their roller skating skills. Throughout the years, Starcastle has remained a regularly visited part of Savannah for anyone looking for an affordable activity to engage in. Themed around the 80s being what we consider the “golden age” of video games, Starcastle houses all of your favorites from pinball to Pac Man. Plan your visit to this supercenter of fun anytime Thursday-Sunday and take part in a business that has spent more than twenty years entertaining Savannah. They also have a restaurant on site so don’t worry about needing to refuel in between rounds in the skating rink or arcade. With 28,000 sq feet of space, there is always enough room for even the largest groups.
The Portal
4.5 ★
This one is for the grown ups that are looking for an excuse to take a stroll down memory lane while grabbing a beer or some light food. During the day, The Portal is an all ages establishment and at night you can lean into the bar vibes that take over. When you order food off their menu, don’t be surprised that this small place keeps a decent selection in the realm of variety. Whether you need vegetarian options or have someone with a gluten intolerance in your group, The Portal keeps a full stock of ingredients that should do the trick. Ask your bartender about their Boozie Lattes for a pick me up with a kick. At The Portal, locals and visitors from all over love to come in and indulge in a selection of games that don’t stick to one period in time. Whether it’s air hockey, skee ball and pool, or newer games like Walking Dead Environmental. The Portal is the kind of place that loves to take suggestions from their guests so don’t be shy about leaving a comment for them online with suggestions for more games to add to their collection. Find this “barcade” on Broughton St, only a short walk from The Rail Pub and visit them after 12 pm any day throughout the week. Folks that live in this area have been known to make a joke about how time seems to move differently when you spend time inside of this place, you might end up playing games for hours without noticing.
Bowlero
4.2 ★
Boasting themselves as Savannah’s “best” bowling alley is why you should plan to experience some fun at Bowlero on Tibet Ave. Opening daily at different times depending which one you choose, Bowlero keeps the party moving whether you’re bowling for a date or need a spot to host your party. Food, games, lounge seating, and noteworthy decorations all combine to provide a relaxing establishment that has the whole afternoon covered for you. Pre-book your lanes to save on wait time and order some food once your party is finished bowling. Real friends love to share food and at Bowlero, their Behemoth Burger is made for the group that wants to get some extra bonding time during the pre or post game meal. Picture a burger patty that weighs 6 lbs and make sure everyone likes the same toppings because the Behemoth Burger takes a lot of teamwork to devour. Wings can be ordered to deliver straight to your lane if you aren’t in a mood to wait until the game is finished. Don’t be surprised if you happen to see this business featured on travel shows, Bowlero is the kind of place that people like to talk about and visit repeatedly.
Moodrights
4.7 ★
For a smaller, more intimate bowling experience, you can find Moodrights if you know where to look for it on Abercorn St just outside of the busiest part of downtown. Offering Duckpin Bowling is what keeps Moodrights getting regular visits from locals and out-of-town visitors. Duckpin Bowling is like regular bowling, but on a smaller scale. With less weight to throw around, you can gain better control over the ball being thrown even after a couple of drinks. You won’t have to spend much at Moodrights for drinks, activities and good times with friends. Seamlessly move from the bowling setup to their outdoor patio area and get to know one of Savannah’s low key establishments that doesn’t require any special dress code to attend. Though Moodrights is closed on Sundays, they usually open around 4 pm (12 pm on Saturdays) throughout the rest of the week. If only to add “Duckpin Bowling” to the list of activities you have engaged in, Moodrights is always worthy of a few beers and rounds.
